Our Hong Kong face, Sala Sihombing writes that in a rare demonstration of industrial action in Hong Kong, the dock workers who have made Hong Kong the world's third largest container port, have pitched tents around the offices of Li Ka-Shing in Central.
The dispute is a multi-party conflict where the dockworkers are employed by sub-contractors who receive contracts from Hongkong International Terminals which is operated by Hutchison Port Holdings Trust whose largest shareholder is Li's Hutchison Whampoa. The government has stepped in to try and mediate - so far without luck. Given the importance of the port to Hong Kong and the high profile nature of this case, the mediators will undoubtedly be renewing their efforts to seek resolution.
